How to Stop Flirting With Sin.  Judges 16:1-20

Some of you are saying I don’t know what you talking about. I don’t do that. But we all do -to some degree or another. Flirting with sin can be a dangerous place to be. It can hinder your relationship with God. If we want to truly follow God/Chase after Him then we cannot allow ourselves to get caught up dabbling/flirting with sin.

Heb. 3:13 says “But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.”

The writer of Hebrews was saying we must encourage one another so that none of us -are deceived by sin.or caught flirting with it.

Almost by accident we can fall into a trap that’s good at encouraging one another in God’s forgiveness, but we never really warn one another of the dangers of sin.

Judges 16: 1-20  In Judges 16....we read a familiar story of Samson and Delilah that shows us that temptation thrives to draw us away from God.

We need to realize is that sin will kill you. When we ignore God’s warnings in his word, we blind our eyes to the imminent danger. Talk about someone blind. Samson couldn’t see past Delilah. We tell ourselves we can dabble in sin and still come out on top. We say things like I am strong enough. I know my limits. I’ve got this.Temptation has a way of lowering our guard giving us a false sense of security.

Sin always has consequences. ALWAYS!  You may think you can flirt/dabble with it but you will lose. You may lose your marriage if you continue with a pornography habit. You may lose your job if you continue to steal from your company. You may end up losing everything if you plunge head first into drunkenness. Sin always has consequences! If we as the children of God chose to ignore the warning signs God's warnings will get louder and clearer.

But here is the good news: God’s discipline is meant to save us from death and separation from Him. God’s discipline is not pleasant, especially when you ignore the warnings. Warnings that are meant to keep you from harm. Don’t think you will continue flirt/dabble or walk in temptation without consequences.

Examine your life closely. Ask God to reveal the sin in your life. The sin you are flirting with. Maybe God has you squirming in your seat today. Get before the Lord. Repent and seek His forgiveness. Then ask for His strength to fight through the temptation.

For Such a Time as This - Esther 4:14-16

God is moving and I know that we are apart of God’s plan. For some of us that makes us real anxious. Maybe it’s the unknown of what God has instore for us.

God knows our circumstances and no matter what we face, we have no excuse to not answer the call of God.    God has brought us to this point in life 'for such a time as this'.

These are two of the most challenging questions one can ask:

Why am I here, right now and in this place?

What is my life all about anyway?

READ: Esther 4: 14-16

Many if not all of us may never be called into situations for the Lord that may cost us our lives. But we should live our lives with the same passion/desire to serve our Lord.

Maybe God is preparing you for the job of making a difference in someone’s life. Don’t let the devil lie to you and tell you that you are no good to the kingdom of God, that there is nothing left you can do.

Perhaps all of your life has been planned out-executed and led to this very time-in this very place-for one all-important purpose. God’s purpose/plan for YOU!

God’s power is not found in our physical appearance or physical abilities. He doesn’t need our help to accomplish his work. But he chooses to use us in his own way. Scripture says 'We are his workmanship and there is a purpose in everything that we face in life.'

We have to understand that God knows our strengths and he knows our weaknesses? We need to understand that “his strength” is made perfect in our weakness? Who knows what great things God has planned for your life down the road? God takes the weak and small and makes them into great and mighty warriors for his kingdom.

Don’t look at your circumstances right now. Look at the promises of God. Have faith in what he can do in his own time. We often miss God’s best because we can only focus on what is not instead of what can be, or what is! God is preparing you for something special and that time will come when you will be used mightily for God.

You are God’s personal creation and his love for you knows no bounds. God will take your life that at times may seem to be falling apart give it new life new hope and a brighter tomorrow.

You are being prepared and you have been prepared   “For such a time as this.”  God won’t accept any excuse for not doing what he has called us to do. He has given you everything you will ever need to fulfill His purpose.

He wants you to be willing to step out in faith and do whatever it takes no matter what the cost, no matter how much it hurts or how inconvenient it may be. To chase after Him and the plan He has for you. If we truly profess to be God’s people with the call of God upon our lives then we must be about our Father’s business. God has called each of us  “For such a time as this.”

Don’t spend another year making excuses. We only get one life to live. You only get one chance to do it right.

How to Make the Most of 2018 - Proverbs 17:24

Proverbs 17: 24 (NIV) -A discerning man keeps wisdom in view, but a fool’s eyes wander to the ends of the earth.”

We all can do the one of two things this year: We can waste it away by sitting around and worrying about the things we failed to accomplish last year or the mistakes we made throughout the year OR We can decide to make the most of this New Year that God has granted us.

Time is not going to sit still...God is not going to sit still. God wants to see lives changed for Him. God wants to see YOU making a difference in the world you live in.

How will this year be any different than last year? God brings life to us in small pieces. At the beginning of every year God says, let’s wipe the slate clean and let’s start with a brand new year.

Proverbs 17:24 (The Good News Version) "An intelligent person aims at wise actions, but a fool starts off in many directions."

For many the last part of that verse describes them. It says, “ A fool starts off in many directions. ” Does that describe any of you? You start your year off in haste going in to many different directions at one time with no plan of action. You’ve got to have a plan! God has one....Good news: your a major part of His plan.

Four keys to get the most out of 2018.

1. Accept responsibility for my life.   Most people would rather blame someone else for the problems and difficulty. They are go around looking for someone who will accept responsibility for them. Galatians 6:5 “Each person must be responsible for Himself.”

2. Believe I can change.      Stop saying, "I can’t" and start saying, "I can". Believe Scripture!! Be the person that believes that you can change the world with the help of God. Philippians 4:13 (NIV) “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!”

3. Clarify what you really want.    You must decide what’s important in your life. God has given each of us the freedom to choose. We have the freedom to choose between good and evil. We have the freedom to choose How we want to live our life/who we want to live it for.

4. Don’t wait to begin.     Do it now! These three words can change your life. Do it now. If you and I wait for the right situation or the right time we may miss out on life all together.

Ecclesiastes 11:4 “Whoever watches the wind will not plant; whoever looks at the clouds will not reap.”

What kind of person will you be this year?

Will you choose to make the most of 2018?

Will you accept responsibility for your life?

Will you believe you can change?

Will you clarify who your going to live your life for?

Will you ask....What’s important to me?

Will I start right now?

Will my relationship with God be at the top of my list?

The choice is yours -to make the most of 2018!......What will it be?

"2017 Year in Review" . Phil. 3:13-14

How quickly the year has gone by? As the year comes to a close we often take time to reflect on it. Let us not forget to use our reflections as stepping stones into the future.

For some of us the past year has been challenging and yet for others exciting. For some there are no changes at all. As Christians we should reflect on the past year with an attitude of thankfulness/gratefulness to God for His mercy and kindness to us.

Whether we are reflecting on the past or visioning for the future...God is with us!

Lesson #1: Look back at the year coming to a close.

As we look back Paul gives us two important word to keep in mind

1. Remember    2. Forget

Philippians 3:13-14  “Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it.  But the one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead. I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”

Paul reminds us 1st that while it is ok to reflect on the past the important thing is to press on towards the goal and to use only those things from our past that will help us achieve that goal. Which is our heavenly home.

We have to realize our past is our past. Many things we reflect on need to be left in the past. Jesus came to free us from the captivity of sin/the past.

Jesus said in LUKE 4:18: “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because He has anointed me to preach the good news to the poor, He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

Galatians 5:1

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.  Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by the yoke of slavery.”

We need to be surrendering those feelings to the Lord. When we truly let go of those thing we have the opportunity to lead the kind of life God wants us to lead.

The Bible tells us if we truly give those over to the Lord than we are free of those thing.  John 8:36 “So if the Son set you free, you will be free Indeed.”

Lesson #2: Look expectantly towards the future.

Proverbs 29:18 “Where there is no revelation (vision) the people cast off restraint(perish).”

We as a people need to have a vision for the Lord. Our vision’s purpose needs to be building the Kingdom of God in 2018.

We are called to be faithful to the mission of building His church. We cannot allow satan to let us look at the world through defeated eyes and say there’s to much wrong.

God has chosen us you and I to be apart of building His Kingdom. Right here/Right Now.

There’s a place Between our past/future. Its a place that we forget about all to often. It’s called  “the Here and Now”  Are you living your life in the Here/Now for His Kingdom?

Live for Him...Look expectantly to how God will work in 2018.

"3 Christmas Presents You Don't Have to Wait to Open" - Luke 2:10-14

Where will you open your presents?

When will you open your presents?

Here are some Christmas gifts you can unwrap right now.  You don’t have to wait.

In Luke 2:10-14, God shows us 3 gifts He gave us through the birth of Jesus. See if you can find them you as READ: Luke 2:10-14.

Christmas Gift #1:  FREEDOM FROM FEAR.....Vs. 10 The angels said “Do not be afraid”…

Matthew 6:25, 32-34  “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?

For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things.

Christmas Gift #2: THE JOY OF SALVATION....Vs. 10 “I bring you good tidings of great joy, which will be to all people.Today in the city of David a Savior has been born to you, which is Christ the Lord”

Vs. 20 tells us that they went to Bethlehem found Jesus, and were filled with joy after having seen Him. You and I know the rest of the story. Jesus reveals Himself as Savior but not the kind of Savior they expected.

Christmas Gift #3: Perpetual Peace....Vs. 14 “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rest.”

God sent His Son to be born in Bethlehem to give you some special gifts

-Freedom from fear

-The joy of salvation

-Peace that lasts.

You don’t have to wait any longer to open those gifts.

Luke 2:10-14(NIV) "But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the city of David a Savior has been born to you; He is Christ, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,  “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.”

"Christmas Is...."  Isaiah 52:7-10

Christmas means so many different things to each and everyone of us.

“Christmas is sleigh bells. Christmas is sharing. Christmas is holly. Christmas is caring.”

The sights, sounds, and feelings....Sadly , that’s what Christmas is for most people.

1) For People Who Have Nothing,

2) For People Who Need Everything.

READ: Isaiah 52: 7-10

1) For People Who Have Nothing...                                                                                                          God sent a greeting of hope to a hopeless people. “How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tiding, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, “Your God reigns!” God in His faithful love and mercy came to His weary and lonely people with a message of good news.......“Your God reigns!”

2) For People Who Need Everything...

The our all-powerful and merciful God intervened for us all. He made it possible for us to have true peace. He gives us everything we need. We see messengers with a great message all throughout scripture. The angel that came to the shepherds that first Christmas announcing, “Peace on earth!”

God has sent His Christmas greeting to you. As we sing the old song “Peace on earth and mercy mild God and sinners reconciled!” That’s what Christmas is all about. And that’s just what we need. God gives us what we need. He gives us a message of hope and love and He gives us the ability to receive and believe it.

God has delivered us. That’s the perfect gift.

"The Cradle, The Cross and The Crown" - Lule 2:1-7

As Christmas rapidly approaches it would seem as though most/not all people are pretty much on overload don’t you think. We get to a point where we don’t know if we can take any more carols or Christmas cookies. Today I want us to focus on three symbols as they relate to Jesus. How they tie together....How they make up the message we are to share.

First part of our message: The Cradle

John 1:14: “The Word became flesh and made His dwelling amont us."

Luke 2:12: “This will be a sign to

you: You will find a baby wrapped in strips of cloth

and lying in a manger.”

The second part of our message: The Cross
John 19:30, “It is finished!”
Final symbol of our message: The Crown

Revelation 19:1 “After this I heard what sounded like the roar of a

great multitude in heaven shouting, Hallelujah!

Salvation and glory and power belong to our God…”

-Vs 6 … “Hallelujah!  For our Lord God Almighty reigns. Let us rejoice and be glad and give Him glory."

Are you ready to meet -the King of Kings and Lord of Lords today?

The Baby in Bethlehem became the Christ of the Cross and was crowned King of Kings and Lord of Lords. And will one day Return in all His glory! Will you be ready?

"Waiting for Christmas" Luke 2:25-38

How many of you have a hard time waiting for Christmas. You just can’t wait -till the season gets here.

What are you waiting for this Christmas? Are you longing for anything? What are you expecting to receive? Are you looking forward to anything special this Christmas?

In the Gospel of Luke, we come across two people -who make their appearance towards the end of the Christmas story.   Read Luke 2: 25-38

We’re introduced to Simeon in Luke 2:25. “Now there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who was righteous and devout. He was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon Him.”

Verse 26 - “It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.”

Verse 38 - “Coming up to them at that very moment, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem.”

There are three action steps from this passage that will help you experience God’s comfort and forgiveness this Christmas.

Action Step #1: Become a marveler
Action Step #2: Become a mover.
Action Step #3: Become a Messenger

Pastor Kelly,

Psalm 100:4 - Enter His gates with thanksgiving, and His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him and praise His name.

What is the presence of God?

It is inescapable....Psalms 139:7 – “Where can I go from your spirit, Where can i flee from your presence.”

It is Jesus with us.....Matthew 28:20 – “I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.”

It is the Holy Spirit indwelling in us - John 14:16 -Promises Holy Spirit  “And I will ask the Father, and he shall give you another Counselor, to be with you forever, the Spirit of truth”

It is Holy....1 Peter 1:15-16 “but just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all your do, for it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”

The How of Thanksgiving

-Joyful -Glad service -Singing -Humble

Overcoming Fear in Turbulent Times" Nehemiah 4:6-18

READ: Nehemiah 4: 6-18

So what can we learn from Nehemiah

 1. As Christians expect enemies! Nehemiah had faced no enemies while sitting in the comfort of the palace.

 2. As Christians we need to understand that the enemy will underestimate us! Nehemiah's enemies underestimated the ability of the people to build and protect themselves.

-Vs. 9 “But we prayed to our God and posted a guard Day and night to meet this threat.”

As Christians we can win because we have 4 key traits:

1. We know our weaknesses and set guards.

2. We need to have a heart to work.

3. To keep their mind on Christ.

4. As Christians we need a willingness to fight for others!

Good news God has placed you in a family that will rally to the call. We must set into place an alarm that is sounded when the call goes out when someone is sick, when someone suffers loss, when someone's world breaks apart we join forces and fight together.

Pastor Kelly,

"Faith in Action: The Detour" Luke 10:25-37

“Greater love has no man than this, That a man lay down his life for another.”

Jackie Robinson stated: “A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives.”

How do you feel when you see this sign? (Detour sign)

-Mad, frustrated, anxious, confused

Some detours in life come at you, and there’s no way -you can choose to take your normal route.

A serious illness - you’re laid off from your job - a loved one dies - a spouse walks out.

Those detours don’t give you a choice. But there are other times in your life when you have a choice to get off your normal path and take a detour. A detour that will enable you to help someone in need. When the chance to serve someone comes are you the kind of person who will follow the sign that says “Take your normal and comfortable route” or take the “Detour Ahead?”

We are going to look at a person in the Bible who decided to take a detour on his road of life so he could be of service to someone else. He is known as the “Good Samaritan.”

Vs 25 - “On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. ‘Teacher,’ he asked, ‘What must I do to inherit eternal life?’

He also challenges our definition of who is our neighbor. By using a Samaritan as the hero Jesus is giving a new definition of who is my neighbor.

So 1st: We are to check our motivation, do we have hearts of compassion?

2ndly: We are to check our definition do we have our own little check list of people who we will helpor are we willing to accept Jesus’ definition of anyone who is in need?

That brings us to the final question: What does this mean to me?

(A) In order to be the kind of neighbor God wants us to be we must realize that a detour takes risk.

(B) To be the kind of neighbor we must understand that a detour takes personal involvement. (time & money)

In the end Jesus switched gears Did you catch what Jesus did? No longer are we asking “Who is my neighbor?”but rather “What kind of neighbor am I?”

I challenge you to take a detour to get off your normal beaten path of life. It doesn’t have to even be anything big. But do something for someone else. Visit someone in the hospital. Take a plate food to shut-in. Volunteer to babysit for a single mom. Write a letter to a soldier overseas....Make a difference for someone else.

Faith in Action: A Call to Serve"  John 13: 1-17

Jesus Christ, the greatest teacher: He wanted to teach his disciples about serving others. But instead of just telling them he showed them.

How do we serve like Jesus?

Vs. 1 says “Having loved His own who were in the world, He now showed them the full extent of His love.”

Max Lucado writes: "The Lord of the universe’s first day was spent in a barn, His last was spent bending down washing feet."

"Great occasions for serving God come seldom but little ones surround us every day."

vs: 17. “Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.”

Service takes commitment.

Jesus calls us to a radically different way of life. A life of compassion and serving.

America’s Perilous Position  Galatians 6: 7-8

Galatians 6:7-8, “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.”

Signs of a Compromising Nation:

1) Immorality

2) Greed

3) Pride

4) Indulgence

5) Slothfulness

6) Ungratefulness

7) Irreverence

How do we Survive Perilous Times:  2 Chronicles 7:13-15

If “My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

4 things that passages says we can/must do:

     1. Humble ourselves. This means we acknowledge God as Lord of our lives, subject ourselves to His       commands and principles, and ask Him to search our hearts.

     2. Pray. We must begin to consistently intercede for our nation.

     3. Seek God’s face. Coming before the Lord, we ask Him to show us His will for our nation and for every area of our lives so we can live as He desires.

     4. Turn from our sins. As the Lord shows us issues in our lives that are not right, we must repent of these sins and turn back to Him in obedience.

"Obedience and Faith"  Acts 8: 26-32

“If we want to learn to pray, we must learn to obey. If we want to pray well, we must obey well. If we want to become prayer warriors, we must first become obedient children.”

1 John 3:22 says “[We] receive from him anything we ask, because we obey his commands and do what pleases him”.

God’s lesson for us today is on Obedience and faith.

Andrew Murray wrote that, -“Obedience and faith are simply two parts of one act -surrendering to God...”

-Faith and obedience are linked together. They go hand and hand...Faith leads to obedience....Obedience strengthens faith.

God wants to use you and I to change lives. It may be in your homes your workplaces/schools

-It may be on some desert road the last place you would expect. But God wants to use you!

-Listen for Him -Expect Him to speak...Look for Him to lead you. Then be obedient and follow Him.
